CFD in the studio: music, friendship, erotic literature

Some equipment we can't afford

‘ello, web-mates!  Boiling our way through the Atlanta summer, how about you?

We got back a few weeks ago from recording new songs for our upcoming album (!!!) and thought we’d share some of the audio visuals.  We were in South Carolina at the Jam Room Studios (where Band of Horses recorded), working with Jay Matheson.

We’re not gear rats by any means, so heading into the studio, we knew we didn’t have the world’s best equipment.  Mostly because it’s freaking expensive.  But the first thing Jay told us was, “Yeah, that’s not going to work at all!”  Actually, he said, “It’s gotta have NUTS!”  I guess all our equipment is female, who knew?

Thankfully, the Jam Room had more heads, cabs, and drums than we could ever possibly afford.  So we got to go all Supermarket Sweep and overload on gear; thankfully, the tunes are going to sound great because of it.  Seriously, we are freaking excited.  Emphatic period.

Since each of the tracks have 3+ guitar parts, Alex, David and Tucker had a decent amount of downtime while I layered and layered.  Alex took a lot of pics and videos, including some of the overdubbin:

While we were there, David also stumbled upon the most inspiring of literature, an erotic novel called “Secrets”.  Needless to say, we all learned a lot that day…mostly that we didn’t want David practicing his secrets on us.

Here’s some more pics from the weekend, including some very artsy ones of us in black and white.  Look how meaningful and pensive we look!!

The album is hopefully coming out this fall…maybe by November?  We’ve got lots of work to do until then, but good things are coming.  Get excited!  Or at least mildly curious.
