The band had a big 4th of July weekend this year – besides the usual drinking, eating, and corn-holing (cornhole being that most sacred of Southern traditions), CFD got to open and close for our hometown Atlanta Braves on July 3! It was a pretty spectacular day, playing two sets before the opening pitch and one after the Braves beat up on the Florida Marlins. Take that, small market teams!
The most surprising thing was what an amazingly nice day it was (which meant I didn’t sweat through my shirt, always a plus). Atlanta is not known for mildness in summer; in fact, it’s usually hot enough to declare the state a disaster area. But Saturday was fantastic weather, good for watching the game or napping, which I did both.
We had a great time, and Katie and the Braves crew were great to let us come out. We rocked a few more covers than our normal sets, but got to bust out some good old fashioned arena rock: Raconteurs, Zeppelin, Queen, Muse…..we got to step outside our introspective-yet-peppy musical mold and just play bitch-ass loud….
